Hello everyone… it’s been a while. I’m sure all two of you who actively read this blog have been in a hysterical mania over my whereabouts. Well truth be told I have been somewhat busy (and far too lazy) to update this blog until right now. So here I go, a little speed run of the last five months:
August was a fun month in the life of Old Will. I moved back to Wilmslow after almost three years of life in Manchester. Admittedly Wilmslow is only down the road, but it felt like a very big deal moving back in with my mum. I put a lot of my stuff in storage (where it still is) until I move out again (God knows when that will be) and it felt sad to leave the flat which I had really grown to love.
I went to London early in the month to see my good friend Joe Spinks. A small group of us went to the London craft beer festival which was most lovely though the bastards closed far too early so I definitely didn’t get my money’s worth. Me and Joe also went round some of Hampstead Heath and went for a swim in the lake there. What was also lovely was cycling around some of London on an electric bike the next day whilst hungover. What was less lovely was getting the five hour bus back to Manchester later that day.
I applied for a few jobs over August and I got an interview at RNCM which went fairly well but I still did not get it. I was able to work that month however as I went to Exeter and worked as a bass player for BYMT like I had done the previous year. Whilst I was down that way, I also went to Cornwall on the way back for a few hours which was a fun little speed run of my favourite county in the UK. On the subject of holiday places I also went to Wales with my fiancee, her sister and her (now ex) boyfriend which was nice, the highlight of that trip was doing Europe’s largest garden maze.
September was also a fun month for Old Will. Much of the month was taken up by work I was doing on the musical. I made some good progress with the script and score and finished the redraft as well as making the website for the show. I also booked a table read for the current draft of the show after a very long time of being unsure what date / venue to do. I also organised the first meeting for the creative team for the show too which was great though the creative team would be massively expanded after this first meeting.
I also had another interview for a different role at RNCM (as well as being offered another interview for a separate job). The interview went well but I did not get the job sadly. I was able to do some freelance work this month however as I worked as the sound guy at the second Palooza event which took place at Barca in Castlefield in Manchester. It went very well, I enjoy being the sound guy at events and it’s a job I would consider doing more full-time in the future.
I went to Spain on holiday with the future wifey which was grand. We also had our engagement party earlier in the month at her parents house which was lovely, particularly as we did a big bonfire in her garden at the end of the night. We also checked out Buxton Pavilion Gardens as a potential wedding venue. Last but not least, my niece Nellie Rita Freydis Twine was born.
October was a good month too which was filled with more of the same. The month was taken up quite a lot by work on the musical, we did the table read for the most recent draft of the show and it was fantastic (though I forgot to bring a cable for the piano). We also launched the website for the show and announced auditions for it too. We got many applicants who wanted to audition but many of them were London based, though we did get a lot of interest from people who live in Manchester. I also did a workshop for the musical at LIPA college in Liverpool which was great.
I unfortunately had another interview for a job which I sadly did not get. I kept applying for jobs, but the musical started to become more of a full-time job as I was busy redrafting it and sorting out all of the admin for auditions and so on. I can’t complain though, I’m very grateful that I can pursue this passion project full-time as it really could not be done any other way.
In more personal news, my fiancee and I decided on Buxton Pavilion Gardens as the wedding venue which is great. Me and the future wifey also went to the Lake District later in the month for a weekend which was great. I also met my niece for the first time and despite the fact that she was only three weeks old, she was quite a large baby. It’s hard to believe I am an uncle.
November was another nice month, though it was almost entirely consumed by work toward the musical. I managed to finish the final draft of the show the last day of the month. Trump winning the American election changed the show to quite a large extent (possibly for the better to the detriment to the world). It was a huge undertaking and I noticed plenty of mistakes after I finished, but I am glad to say that it is finally done after over eleven years of work. We also announced the show this month which was a huge effort to get attention for given that Instagram banned our page from boosting ads (presumably because they featured content with Donald Trump). Regardless of this, we have sold several dozen tickets so far and I am only hoping to build on this as we enter 2025.
I had another interview for a job but sadly did not get it (the kind of deja vu I don’t like). It has been getting quite disheartening getting rejected from roles over and over again but what can you do (except complain on your blog). Something will come along soon I’m sure.
One particular highlight from November was going to my friends engagement party in Marsden.
December was not the best month truth be told. My grandad was hospitalised over Christmas and some other family drama was also unfolding at the same time. Outside this though, I was somewhat productive and am glad to say that we have fully cast all the parts for my musical. The auditions themselves were really fun and all my stress induced work paid off thankfully. We have now printed all the scripts and sheet music for the show, hard to believe it’s technically finished (though I will definitely make some edits after it’s done).
I had quite a few significant dates over December, it was my birthday on the 10th, my graduation on the 12th, Christmas on the 25th and New Years Eve on the 31st (I am writing on this last day of the year). Despite quite a lot of nice times this month, there have been some quite bad low points. But these dark spots have made me more determined to make 2025 a better year and with that in mind here are my new years resolutions:
Get my musical performed and recorded (March 7-8th)
Run a half marathon (scheduled for March 24th)
Move in with my fiancee (ASAP)
Get a job related to what I want to do with my life (ASAP)
Complete the AV technician exam by the end of the year.
Get to below 90KG (current weight as of time of writing 113KG) by the end of the year
God that was a ball ache! Happy New Year Everyone!
